Baron Baldric.
=============
The following notes summarise what is buried in the program.
This will enable you to find out how to play the game without having
to read every intro screen in detail (as most people usually don't, myself
included).
This program is shareware, and contains only the first three levels of the
game. To get the remainder of the 10 levels, the game must be registered.
Requirements:
VGA
supports most common sound cards. (optional)
Keys:
P Pause menu (Load/Save,High Scores,Sound Volume etc)
Left/Right Walk left/right
Up/Down Climb up/down
Up+Left/Right Jump to the left/right
Alt+Left/Down/Right Hit with stick (in appropriate direction)
Alt+Up Light Lamp
Down+Right Scoop ie Pickup
Alt-Q Quit Game
Items:
There are there item types - Flint, Food, Jewels
Flint: Small grey bumps on the floor
Food: Looks like food eg grapes, chicken leg, etc
Jewels: Looks like a valuable item eg Goblet, crown etc
All flint and food must be picked up. Some Jewels are picked up
when you walk over them, others must get manually picked up.
Monsters:
In general, all monsters that don't resemble fairies are harmful.
Some monsters can be scared away by hitting with your stick.
Screen Layout:
Food Meter: This is the yellow meter on the Far left side of the
screen. It will shrink up as you use up your food. When it
gets near the top, a buzzer will sound continuously until you
starve to death, or find something to eat.
Health Meter: This is the read meter just to the right of the Food
Meter. It goes down fast when you are in contact with a monster.
It regenerates slowly.
Flint Quantity: The top item in the area beneath the Health Meter is
the quantity of flint you are carrying. Each flint will relight
the lamps once. Refill this by picking up flint (lots is around)
Lives left: The bottom item in the area beneath the Health Meter is
the number of lives you have left.
Light Bulb: The light bulb in the top right of the screen indicates
whether the lights are on or off. If you pay with the lights off
too long, you die.
Number of Jewels: The number next to the jewel in the center of the
right hand side of the screen indicates how many jewels you have
found. You need to find 10 before you can exit the level.
Timer: The timer on the lower right of the screen counts down how long
is left until you will die unless the lights are relit (and it gets
reset).
Play Area: The center of the screen contains the play area.
Pause bar: When you pause the game, the pause bar drops down from the
top of the screen.
Notes:
The game indicates that the diagonal keys can be used. This is not
true. The diagonal directions must be constructed using two key combinations.
To light a lamp, you MUST have flint.
The save game feature stores only your quantity of flint, and your number
of lives. When you restore a game you must start the level over.
To finish a level, you must have 10 jewels. Find you way to the exit
sign and hit it with your stick.
